Photos from the Residents For Seacliff Park Drawing Residents for Seacliff Park (RFSP), led by Niki Derby, formed to promote Measure V, a bond issue that would have funded the purchase and development of a 3-acre park. Local businesses also supported the park effort. Especially prominent was Seacliff Video, which has become a de facto community communications center. Measure V also had County support, with County Supervisor Ellen Pirie sponsoring the measure and getting it on the ballot. Donations were made by many, including the Seacliff Improvement Association, to support the group. Raffle tickets were sold to raise funds and to promote community awareness for Measure V. Often, members and supporters sat out in the cold winter rain selling tickets. If it had passed, a $98 per year, 30-year bond would have would have a fully funded a 3-acre park. County Parks had committed to take ownership and maintain the park once it was built. It failed by 41 votes due primarily to the opposition of Phil Trounstine, a professional political operative, and the Senior Coalition. (Announcement in the Santa Cruz Sentinel, 3/17/2005) RAFFLE DRAWING: With refreshments, ballons and musics. Raffle tickets are $1 each and proceeds go to the 'Residents for Seacliff Park,' a citizen group campaigning for the building of a community park for Seacliff. 1 p.m. Sunday. Seacliff Video, 275 Center St., Seacliff. |
